Baldness has actually now been linked to heart disease. Who knew right? Anyway, a study of 872 men between the ages of 25 and 65 in Italy found that 32% of those with male pattern baldness hereditary and in front of and on the crown of the head had a tendency to have significantly higher cholesterol levels as well as higher blood pressure than those with a receding hair line or for that matter a full head of hair. Both of those are major contributors to heart disease of course. There are some who have suggested that they have a higher production of testosterone, which can in some ways lead to higher rates of hair loss, and it would make sense. An old neighbor of mine who was the only one I’ve ever heard of actually had his first heart attack at age 25 and continued to have heart attacks on a pretty regular basis after that. He did have the balding on the crown of the head too, so maybe that truly has something to do with it. But it’s by proxy I guess. Time will tell what they really find out about it, and obviously it’s not all balding men. But it’s a matter of wait and see.
